Frequently Asked Questions

What is Redact?
Redact is the name of the Fall 2012 issue of Digital Americana Magazine. It is available for iPad, iPhone, and Print-on-Demand. This was the first iPad issue to feature built in tools to create erasure poetry by means of redaction.

An interactive literary magazine?
Digital Americana was designed from the ground up with the intention to allow the user to create their own digital visual poetry. Using your iPad you can now turn on Redact and instantly create and share your redactions from any page of the issue.

What else is Redact?
Redact comes from the tradition of "Erasure," which is a form of visual poetry, where by removing or redacting text from a document you can come up with something original and transformative.

Sounds cool, how much is this going to cost?
At .99¢ an issue, this app is totally worth it (and your support let's us know we should keep on experimenting with creating digital literary tools & experiences).

What if I want to read this on an iPhone?
Yes, you can! Although the Redact-Mode feature is iPad only, our latest issues also come with enhanced iPhone versions.

Where can I learn more about Redactive Poetry?
In the Fall 2012 issue we pay homage to this tradition and the many who have adapted this literary art—via original interviews with contemporary artists & a featured erasure overview.
